BACK-TO-SCHOOL! & KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLEAN AND HEALTHY
- On November 3, 2017
At this time of the year, we say goodbye to summer and welcome our normal daily routine, which can also be accompanied by new, healthy habits: loosing weigh, doing sport, learning a new language, playing an instrument, etcetera. All these goals are very important, but we shall not forget our oral health.
We use it every day, for almost everything: when eating, speaking, smiling or kissing; it is a crucial aspect of our physical appearance and if we don’t take care of it properly, it may involve a decline in our quality of life. Despite we are already aware of it, we still don’t take enough care of it and engage in unhealthy habits that cause considerable harm.
The most common is the consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks (soda, soft drinks) during summer season. Sugary drinks are potentially harmful for the body and, at an oral level, studies reveal that tooth decay (caries) is directly related to its consumption. Moreover, sugar-sweetened drinks have a high erosive power that can lead to tooth hypersensitivity, an extremely distressing and restraining condition. Concerning our organism, a continued exposure to high levels of sugar – together with other risk – may lead to metabolic disorders in the long term, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
In this respect, a proper oral health can help us a lot! If we remove biofilm or dental plaque on a daily basis and use a high-quality toothbrush, dental floss and an interdental toothbrush, we will keep a proper oral health.
If you want to pass this course with flying colours (or at least, at a dental level), you shall take it seriously since the very beginning and work hard!
