The Pediatric Dentistry is the branch of dentistry that is dedicated to the oral health care of children. This includes dental checks for abnormalities or alterations in the position of the maxilliars, as well as restoration treatments due to caries or trauma.
It is essential to note that, despite the widespread belief that primary teeth or “baby teeth” are less important because they are not the definitive ones, the good care and hygiene of the primary dentition are determining factors for the health of the permanent dentition: any temporary tooth infection that reaches the root causing the appearance of an abscess tooth will affect the future tooth to come. Stains, malformations or lesions in permanent teeth are some of the consequences of failing to properly treat an infection in the temporal tooth. On the other hand, oral health is essential for the normal development of children: factors such as nutrition, speech and selfesteem could be altered by a denture with poor conditions.
In order to establish preventive measures that impact in a decrease of incidences of caries and periodontal diseases of children residing in Murcia, the Ministry of Health provides the Programa de Salud Bucodental Infantil (PADI) a program aimed for children between 6 and 8 years old covering the most common diseases of childhood. We are proud to be part of this program.
